Oh man, what a bummer! Lewis Hamilton’s hopes of winning the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix were dashed when he had to retire from the race due to mechanical issues. It was a real shame, as he had been leading up until that point. Talk about bad luck! Still, it’s not all doom and gloom for Hamilton - he still managed to finish second in the championship standings. Here’s hoping he can come back even stronger next season!

How Did Hamilton Lose Abu Dhabi? [Solved]

Hamilton and Max were neck-and-neck going into the last race, but with Hamilton in the lead late on behind a safety car, he was pipped to the post on the last lap when Michael Masi let some lapped cars get between them.

  1. Qualifying: Lewis Hamilton was unable to secure pole position in qualifying, finishing second behind Max Verstappen.
  2. Start: Hamilton got off to a slow start and was passed by both Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas at the start of the race.
  3. Strategy: Mercedes opted for a two-stop strategy, while Red Bull went for a one-stop strategy which proved to be more effective in the end.
  4. Safety Car: A safety car period midway through the race allowed Verstappen to close up on Hamilton and eventually overtake him for the lead on lap 44 of 55 laps total.
  5. Finish: Despite putting up a strong fight, Hamilton was unable to catch back up with Verstappen and finished second behind him at the checkered flag, losing out on his chance of winning his seventh world championship title in Abu Dhabi
