With such a large number of kids living in the country, it’s no wonder why India has some of the most innovative programs and initiatives for children’s rights. From education to healthcare, India is doing its best to ensure that all its young citizens have access to the resources they need for a bright future. Let’s take a closer look at how India is working hard to make sure its kids get the best start in life!
How Many Children Does India Have? [Solved]
Today, the average Indian woman is expected to have 2.2 kids in her lifetime - way more than the US (1.6) but a lot less than back in ‘92 (3.4) or even 1950 (5.9). Wow, that’s quite a difference!
Education: India has the world’s largest population of children, and education is a key factor in their development. The government has implemented various initiatives to ensure that all children have access to quality education, including free and compulsory primary education for all children aged 6-14 years.
Health: India is home to one of the highest numbers of malnourished children in the world, with over 40% of its under-five population suffering from malnutrition. The government has taken steps to improve child health by providing free healthcare services for pregnant women and young children, as well as immunization programs for infants and toddlers.
Child Labor: Despite laws prohibiting child labor in India, it remains a major problem in the country with an estimated 10 million working children between 5-14 years old. The government has taken steps to combat this issue by introducing stricter laws against employers who hire underage workers and providing alternative employment opportunities for families living below the poverty line.
Child Rights: India is a signatory to several international conventions on child rights such as the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) which outlines basic rights such as protection from exploitation, abuse or neglect; access to healthcare; education; and freedom from discrimination based on gender or religion among others.
India has a lot of kids! In fact, it’s the second most populous country in the world. There are over 400 million children living in India, and they make up almost a third of the population. That’s an incredible number! Education is important to these kids, and there are many initiatives in place to help them get the best start possible. From free school meals to scholarships for higher education, India is doing its best to ensure that its children have every opportunity available to them.
